I’m not much of a Brown fan. In fact, with the exception of the Da Vinci Code, he fails across the board (starting with the utter rubbish in Angels and Demons). Indeed, I am lenient as I don’t ask much except two things: wit and consistency within its own universe. Of the few Dan Brown [...]

It is hard when dealing with a well-known franchise. People have high expectations (especially plot-wise), there’s always something to nitpick on, especially when comparing to movies/books or previous cult games. Star Trek Online and Lord of the Rings online both have their appeal (the latter more than the former), but the first misses the mark [...]

George RR Martin’s A song of Ice and Fire saga is most certainly one of the most fascinating fantasy series. A thing to be appreciated in its first book (A Game of Thrones) is the patience to introduce detail little by little and give room for characters to evolve. In this manner, George RR Martin [...]

So, my favorite resource TheRegister has come up with a very interesting poll entitle Best Sci-Fi Film Never Made (reasonably, it does include fantasy). The poll itself is not so different than many other polls, but the choices presented make for a rather difficult decision. What would you choose from the list? I have noticed [...]

HBO does not mass produce shows. This simple fact is reflect into each of their works: Six Feet Under, The Tudors, True Blood, The Sopranos, Rome and many others. Attention to detail, well-scripted parts, well-defined characters and expressive actors are weapons in an arsenal that won every TV battle it was engaged in. A Game [...]

The Vampire Diaries TV series, masterminded by Kevin Williamson (known to us from the making of cheap teenage slashers like The Faculty or Scream), is one little gem that is very easy to misjudge. This is not hard to see, after all mr Williamson’s reputation is based on heavily comercialized cheap thrills. Then, the promotion [...]

Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings is already recognized as the fantasy movie masterpiece of the decade. Rightfully so, as it is both a visual treat with carefully crafted details as well as a complete redition of JRR Tolkien’s work. As with any fantasy ecranization, many points are missed but it is not hard to [...]

The urban fantasy genre, also known as shhhh, they’re among us!, has always been a top seller amassing a great fanbase when it comes to books. In the past decade however, movie adaptations attempts failed miserably because (for some unknown reason) they tried to fill in the patterns and stereotypes of the high fantasy (also [...]

I haven’t seen many films that would stir such mixed impressions as James Cameron’s Avatar. Reviews are terribly mixed even if the average impression leans towards positive. I guess the heavy advertising around the movie manage to create a wave of high expectations that were never truly and completely fulfilled.
