Recently I found myself in need of a good antivirus product and as it’s been a while since my last incursion in the world of antivirus software, I decided to give a chance to the reports at www.av-comparatives.org. For those unfamiliar, this website provides periodical testing and reviews of antivirus products and I must say that after reviewing their methodology, I believe it to be the most comprehensive at the moment.

Am decis sa iau si eu drumul scrisului pentru a vorbi despre ce a insemnat pentru mine mutarea in Franta si nu in ultimul rand pentru a face drumul ceva mai usor pentru cei care vor sa plece in aceasta directie. Dincolo de aparente si de speranta oarba investita de multi in ideea plecarii din tara, a te muta in alta parte nu e nici pe departe usor si nu ofera garantia unei vieti mai bune. In a move reminding of SounthPark’s Proper Condom Use episode ,Pope Benedict was advised by the British people to launch his own condoms brand. Given Pope Benedict’s upcoming visit to the UK, the authorities gathered ideas from the people on activities and suggestions regarding the Pontiff’s visit and they got a little surprise in the box. The idea that the Pope should have his own brand of condoms was not the only idea in the box, being accompanied by things like offering apologies to the families of the boys raped by his friends or sponsoring support groups for pedophile victims.
The British ambassador with the Vatican had to issue and apology, but was unable to explain why the suggestion made it to the official folder and wasn’t filtered out. Personally, I understand the ambassador’s problem since it’s clearly an inappropriate suggestion. continue reading…
In the year 1994, reputable game-maker Chris Sawyer launched the acclaimed business simulation game Transport Tycoon. The success prompted an updated version, Transport Tycoon Deluxe, which was a somewhat improved version of the original Transport Tycoon. The game gained an immense community, making it one of the oldest game to have a cult following even today.
In this world where change is the only constant, what exactly can we hang on to when we need a little peace and stability? Though the power to adapt has no limits, patience does and when struggling to keep track and control of changes, conscience may slowly drift away into a dark abyss.
CJ Sansom is one of those amazingly educated people who develop a passion for writing in the process. Sansom was educated as a lawyer (in fact a solicitor, according to the British law) and ended up using his expertise in the field of law as well as in history to concoct mind-teasing witty stories. This path may remind readers of the more famous american author John Grisham, who also uses his lawyer wit to draw immersing plots closely tied to the field of law practice.

I’m always interested in following copyright related trials since I’m a strong suporter of liberalizing copyright laws and removing intermediaries between the general public and the creators of copyrighted materials. The issues of freedom of information and free access to art and knowledge isn’t a light one, however when push comes to shovel I stand that we’re not living in the Dark Ages anymore and art and knowledge must not be again a luxury of the rich.
Viacom is one of those intermediaries that I’m talking about, a leech on the back of artists that every now and then takes the role of head-censor when the copyrighted materials it holds. Using its censorship prerogative, Viacom launched a crusade against Google’s YouTube on the grounds that YouTube failed to act when several clips containing Viacom copyrighted materials were posted on YouTube. continue reading…
Facultatea FSEGA a UBB Cluj este mereu surprinzatoarea in incoerenta politicilor de zi cu zi. As dori sa stiu cati studenti s-au lovit de urmatoarea problema: orarul afisat pentru un semestru nu corespunde deloc (dar absolut deloc) cu orarul real dupa care au loc orele. Personal m-am lovit de problema aceasta saptamana trecuta, cand am avut surpriza ca, mergand la cursuri, sa gasesc ca niciunul dintre cursurile specializarii mele de master nu are loc in sala scrisa in orarul afisat.
Pe langa faptul ca orarul e afisat doar la un singur afisier (nicidecum pe internet, stim cu totii la ce foloseste site-ul FSEGA), acesta nu reflecta realitatea programului orelor de curs!! Cu alte cuvinte, nu doar ca e afisat degeaba dar specializarea mea nu are orar!! Intr-o facultate care se doreste moderna si europeana, orarul se afla precum traditiile stramosesti: pe cale orala!! Se pare ca haosul obisnuit la FSEGA nu are limite.
As one can clearly notice, my blog has suffered a change. But this change is not merely in looks (after giving up my own original WordPress theme and replacing it with a third-party free WordPress theme), it is also in content. Since last week, I decided to move all my fantasy, magic and literary works on to my other domain (raistlin.eu), which has stood unused for quite some time now.
Instead, this site will focus more on technology, politics and web development, in an attempt to share more of my experience as a web developer and quiet observer of the world around.
Coming soon, I will have a short series of articles on WordPress, object-oriented programming in PHP5 as well as reviews of some of the newer gadgets that I managed to lay my hands on.
So stay tuned and don’t forget to also check out my new fantasy blog, if you feel like taking a break from the real world!
