“In the 21st century, nations don’t invade other nations”. A simple statement, right? And a sensible one to that, something that a political idealist might say in a frenzy of hope.

However, this isn’t quite the case here, for the above sentence was uttered by none other than ours truly John McCain, president wannabe for the US of A. Why is it funny, you wonder? Well, the above sentence was burped out as a protest against Russia’s trodding on Georgian soil, in the recent turn of events in the Balcans.

Now let us take a closer look at mr McCain’s sample of intelligence. In the 21st century, nations don’t invade other nations. If Obama would have said that casually in a speech, I might have given him the benefit of a doubt, but not quite in this case. See, mr McCain is a proponent of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The invasions were perpetrated by the Bush administration (aka Republicans) starting 2001, which, by all accounts it’s part of the 21st century. Maybe McCain thinks that one of the parties involved in invasions is not a nation? Maybe US is not a nation? That’s not something to consider (I hope, for his sake) in the wake of the 75 days remaining until general elections. Maybe some of the US allies that contributed to the initial violation of the sovereignity of Afghanistan and Iraq are not in fact nations. Are UK, Poland and Australia nations? Are the invaded countries in fact nations? Iraq, Afghanistan? Well, some of us would say yes to these questions. But I would give McCain the benefit of a doubt, after all, he’s old. Maybe a few millenia ago the word “nation” meant something completely different. Who knows? Maybe his mind isn’t as sound as it once was.

Fact is, in the 21st century, a few nations gathered under the flag of another nation went on to invade a couple of other nations. Unless McCain was born in the last two years (unlikely given the wrinkles) this is the current situation in the middle east. Yes mr McCain, your nation invaded other nations in the 21st century and you seem eager to maintain that invasion.

See mr McCain, one of the criticism brought in to mr Michael Moore over the facts presented in his controversial “Fahrenheit 9/11″ was that he failed to mention the tyrrany of Saddam Hussein and the fact that the man was “bad” or “evil”. Well, mr McCain, may I remind you that legislation of all levels doesn’t allow us to kill people because we don’t like them or because we disagree with them or their leaders. Aside from that, it’s a joke of bad taste to claim that US stands for democracy and will try to depose all dictators since it’s actually US who supported and installed two of the most vile dictators of the modern times: Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and Augusto Pinochet and have their hands shaking with other totalitarian regimes (such as Saudi Arabia).

Give us a break John McCain, or do something good for a change: leave politics and start a Stand-up Comedy group. That will help relieve the american public of the stress caused by the incoming recession!
