The Last Unicorn (1982) (draft)

Arguably one of the best fantasy movies of all times, the movie inspired by Peter S Beagle’s original masterpiece is filled with a mature theme that beckons the spectator to question many aspects of life as we know it.

The beautifully animated movie follows the story closely, touching almost every aspect of the book even though the unicorn’s doubts and feelings don’t come on display too often (yet many are suggested by the amazing animated cartoon). For the voicing of the characters, we have an array of all-stars, starting with Mia Farrow as The Unicorn, Alan Arkin as the comically ambitious Schmendrick The Magician, Angela Lansbury (known from Beauty and the Beast) as the witch Mommy Fortuna, Jeff Bridges (of K-Pax) as the good Prince Lir, Christopher Lee (I think you’ll find him in nearly half of the top 100 fantasy movies, of “Lord of the Rings” reputation) as the mad King Haggard … and Rene Auberjonois (of “Deep Space Nine”) as The Skull.
